How to find your username and profile link on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Twitch and Facebook

Your handle and profile URL are the two things every form, collab and media kit asks for. Where to find both on each platform, and what the links look like.

The short version: Your username is the handle after the @, and your profile link is the platform's address with that handle on the end. The formats are instagram.com/yourname, tiktok.com/@yourname, youtube.com/@yourhandle, x.com/yourname, twitch.tv/yourname and facebook.com/yourname. The quickest way to get any of them is to open your profile and use the Share profile or Copy link option.

Brands ask for it. Collab forms ask for it. Every link-in-bio tool asks for it.

And it's surprisingly easy to paste the wrong thing.

A display name isn't a username, and a shared post link isn't a profile link. Each platform keeps the right one in a slightly different place, and the link formats differ too.

Username vs display name

Your username (or handle) is unique on the platform. It's the part after the @, like @yourname, and it's what appears in your profile address.

Your display name is the name shown in large text on your profile. It doesn't have to be unique, and it can contain spaces and emoji.

When a form asks for your "handle" or "username", it wants the first one.

Older links still work in some places. Twitter addresses (twitter.com/yourname) point to X, and YouTube channels may also have older /c/ or /user/ addresses.

Instagram

Open the app and tap your profile picture in the bottom corner. Your username sits at the top of the profile screen.

For the link, use the share or copy option on your profile, or type instagram.com/ followed by your username.

TikTok

Tap Profile. Your username appears under your profile photo, starting with @.

Your link is tiktok.com/@ followed by the username. Note the @ in the address. The share option on your profile copies it for you.

YouTube

YouTube handles start with @ and appear on your channel page under the channel name.

The handle link is youtube.com/@ followed by your handle. It's the tidiest link to share, and it's the one most forms expect today.

X

Your username appears under your display name on your profile, starting with @.

Your link is x.com/ followed by the username, without the @. Usernames on X are limited to letters, numbers and underscores.

Twitch

Your username is your channel name. It appears on your channel page and in chat.

Your link is twitch.tv/ followed by the username.

Facebook

Facebook profiles and pages can have a custom username, which gives a clean link like facebook.com/yourname. You'll find it in your profile or page settings.

If you've never set one, your profile link may use a long number instead. For anything that asks for a username, set a custom one first and use that.

Paste the profile, not a post. Half of all "wrong link" problems are a link to your latest video.

Common mistakes

  • Pasting a post or video link instead of the profile
  • Using the display name where the username is needed
  • Mixing up the @. TikTok and YouTube handle links include it (tiktok.com/@name), while Instagram and X links use the plain username (x.com/name)
  • Copying a link from a browser with tracking codes on the end. They usually still work, but a clean link is easier to check

How do I find my TikTok username?

Open TikTok and tap Profile. Your username is shown under your profile photo and starts with @. Your profile link is tiktok.com/@ followed by that username, and the share option on your profile copies it for you.

What's the difference between a username and a display name?

A username, or handle, is unique on the platform and forms your profile address. A display name is the name shown on your profile and doesn't have to be unique. Forms that ask for a handle want the username.

YouTube channels can be reached through a handle address, youtube.com/@handle, and some older channels also keep legacy /c/ or /user/ addresses. They all lead to the same channel, but the handle link is the simplest one to share and the format most forms expect.

Does twitter.com still work for X profiles?

Links using twitter.com generally redirect to x.com, but x.com/yourname is the current format. Our join form accepts either and treats them as the same X username. X usernames can contain letters, numbers and underscores, up to 15 characters.
