Pay-to-rank, explained: a leaderboard where the price is the point

Pay-to-rank means your position is the total paid toward your listing. How it works on TopInfluencers.io, what a spot costs, and why prices are public.

The short version: Pay-to-rank means your position on a leaderboard is set by money, not by followers, engagement or judges. On TopInfluencers.io, a listing's rank is the total paid toward it. The bottom of any board costs $5, and ranking above a spot costs one dollar more than that spot. Every price is visible, and a rank is paid placement, never an endorsement.

Most rankings hide their mechanism.

This one is the mechanism.

"Pay-to-rank" sounds like a confession, and in a way it is one. The site says, on every page, that rank is what you pay. What follows is exactly how that works, so nobody has to guess.

Rank equals the total paid toward a listing

Every listing on the board has a running total, which is everything paid toward it so far. The board sorts by that total, highest first.

That's the whole algorithm.

There are separate boards for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Twitch and Facebook, plus a worldwide ranking across all of them and a country filter. A listing page shows three ranks side by side: on its platform, worldwide, and in its country.

What a spot costs

Two rules set every price on the site:

  • The floor is $5. That's the minimum to get onto any board
  • Outranking costs one dollar more. To sit above a listing, you pay one dollar more than its current total

So if a spot stands at $13, ranking above it costs $14. If #1 stands at $19, taking #1 costs $20. Prices change every time someone pays, which is why the boards and the join page quote live figures rather than a price list.

The most transparent ranking online is the one that shows you its price tag.

The one labelled exception: starting prices

Some spots on the boards are added by TopInfluencers.io itself. They belong to well-known public accounts, and nobody has paid for them.

Those spots can carry a starting price that we set. It's labelled "starting price" everywhere it appears, and it's never shown as a payment. A spot with a starting price ranks at that price, and ranking above it costs one dollar more, like any other spot.

The listing page also says plainly who put each listing there. It reads "Listed and paid for by the account owner", "Listed and paid for by a fan", or "Added by TopInfluencers.io", with a note when nobody has paid.

Who can put a listing on the board

There are two ways to buy a spot:

  • List yourself. Pick your platform, enter your handle, and the site pulls your name, photo and follower count from your profile. You confirm the account is yours and that you're 18 or older
  • List a creator you follow. A fan can pay to put someone else's public account on the board. The listing page says a fan listed and paid for it, not the person named

Either way, you get one private manage link instead of an account. It lets you edit the card, top up the total, refresh the photo from the profile, hide the listing or remove it. There's more on the fan route in fan listings, explained.

What pay-to-rank doesn't do

A paid board is honest about its limits, so here they are:

  • It doesn't measure influence. A $50 listing isn't more influential than a $5 one. Someone paid more for it
  • It doesn't imply endorsement. A listing never means the person in it endorses or works with the site
  • It doesn't refund being outbid. Rank can always be bought above you, and that's the product working as described

Follower counts and platform badges appear on cards for context, but they never change a listing's position. If you want to know how other rankings decide their order, how influencer rankings are made compares the methods.

Why admit it at all?

Because plenty of rankings are already shaped by money: entry fees, sponsorships, agency relationships. Few of them say so.

A pay-to-rank board skips the pretence. The price of every rank is public, the rules fit in two sentences, and anyone who doesn't want to be listed can ask for removal through the removal page.

Questions about pay-to-rank

What does pay-to-rank mean?

It means position is determined by payment. On TopInfluencers.io, a listing's rank is the total amount paid toward it. The one other factor is a labelled starting price on some spots the site added itself. Followers, engagement and badges are shown but never ranked.

How much does it cost to be #1?

One dollar more than the current #1's total. The price changes whenever someone pays, so the site shows it live on each board and on the join page before you pay. The minimum to get onto any board at all is $5.

Is a pay-to-rank listing an endorsement?

No. A rank on this site is paid placement. It isn't an award, a measurement of influence or an endorsement, and it never implies that the person listed endorses or is affiliated with TopInfluencers.io. The site also isn't affiliated with any of the platforms it lists.

Can I get a refund if someone outbids me?

No. Being outbid is never refundable, because an outbid is the board working as described. Your listing stays on the board with its total, just lower down. You can top up from your manage link to climb back whenever you want.

Can someone list me without asking?

Yes. A fan can pay to put your public account on the board. The listing page states that a fan listed and paid for it, not you. If you'd rather not be listed, you can have it removed free of charge after showing you own the account.
