How to get your name removed from a ranking or listing site

You searched your own name and found a list you never agreed to.

That's worth fixing, and it's usually simpler than it looks.

Most reputable sites have a removal route. Using one takes three steps: find it, prove the account is yours, and ask in writing.

Step 1: find the site's removal route

Look for these, usually in the footer:

• A page called "Remove a listing", "Opt out" or "Takedown"
• A report link on the listing itself
• A contact form or support email
• The site's privacy policy, which often names a contact for data requests

If the site has none of these, a contact on its domain registration or hosting provider may be the only route. Keep a note of the date you first found the listing.

Step 2: prove the account is yours

Sites need to know the request comes from the real owner, not someone trying to remove a competitor.

Common ways to prove it:

• Post a short note on the account mentioning the site, which they can check
• Write from an email address visibly linked to the account, for example one listed in your bio
• Send a message from the account itself, if the site accepts DMs

Don't send ID documents unless you trust the site and it genuinely needs them.

Step 3: ask clearly, and in writing

Keep the message short:

1. The exact page address of the listing
2. That you own the account, and how you've proved it
3. That you'd like the listing removed
4. The date of your request

• Check the site's terms for a stated removal policy and quote it
• Report impersonation to the platform where the fake profile or content lives
